News
04.03.07 - If anyone reading this lives in Seattle, Portland, San Francisco or San Diego, you will be able to see Amiina and Peter and the Wolf play together. How about that? We think it will be a wonderful night of music. Both bands will be touring the US and Canada on their own tour as well, so this is your chance, North American music fans.

peter and the wolf get ready to leave for tour
02.21.07 - Are you on tour? Many of our bands are, so please check the tour page. If you are going to be attending SXSW you will be able to see My Latest Novel and Peter and the Wolf. If you live in the US, you may be able to see Amiina in person in a town or city near you. You can also buy most of our releases on iTunes if you have a computer. if you don't have a computer you should think about getting one, they are really handy these days.
01.05.07 - Happy New Year! 2007 will be a great year here, with many releases.
Many of the bands we work with are in their studios recording new
music, so start saving your money now.
No More Direct Mailorder. We owe a big "thank you" to everyone who has done a mail order from us
in the past, but due to a few factors we are no longer going to handle
it from our office. It has been fun emailing with people, but for the
time being, all new orders will be handled by the nice folks at
Midheaven. They sell everything we do, except for the Sigur Ros
release, but that is readily available from most music retailers. If
anyone finds a store that carries decent music and does not have that
record, please email us and we will freak out at the distributor. That
will be fun, so don't hesitate to email.
10.13.06 - CMJ music marathon alert. Amiina and Peter and the Wolf will both be playing
in New York for the CMJ music marathon on Tuesday October 31st. At 8pm,
please make your way to the Knitting Factory's Tap Bar to witness Peter and
the Wolf. When they are finished you will have plenty of time to walk to
Joe's Pub to catch Amiina play at midnight. The Amiina show will sell out,
so if you are interested, please buy your tickets in advance, or line up
early if you want to get in with your badge. You can stop at Two Boots on
the way for a slice and Other Music on the way. That sounds like a great
night. If you will not be in NYC for CMJ, you can try to re-create the event
in your own home.
10.12.06 - Welcome to Autumn. We will be releasing the Peter and the Wolf Debut,
"Lightness", and the North American debut from My Latest Novel,
"Wolves" on October 31st. Those of you who are fortunate enough to not
live in the US will see the Peter and the Wolf released on Nove 6th.
We will also have a new 3 song release from Amiina very soon.
All three bands are, and will continue touring this fall. This is
because they want to share their music with you. That is what they
have told us, so we have no reason to believe otherwise.
Our only current alumni, Johann Johannsson will see his new album,
"IBM 1401, A Users Manual" released via 4AD on Oct 24th in North
America and Oct 30th in the rest of the world. If you would like to
hear a song from the album, click here.
One final thing. If you live in the US please do not vote for any
republicans in the upcoming election. If they conitinue to hold both
the house and senate we may be forced to ask our bands to stop
touring. We will blame you. Do you really want to live with that
hanging over your head?
08.03.06 - You may have to scroll down a few news items to understand why we are
telling you this, but i have just found out that people and bands from
Glasgow are referred to as Glaswegian. Weegies is also a term that
some use.
08.02.06 - Welcome to our new website, we hope you enjoy it. We have to thank our
friend Anthony for doing all of this. Thanks, Ant!
The Sigur Ros ep will be in stores in the US next week, and in Canada
on the 29th, but you can buy it from us now by going to our Sigur Ros
page. They had a wonderful time at their hometown show last Sunday,
you can see a photo of the crowd on the Sigur Ros page as well. Amiina
has been playing their fingers off on this tour as well, and i think
both bands are looking forward to a bit of well-deserved time off.
Both Peter and the Wolf and My Latest Novel have been having splendid
shows on their summer tours, albeit on different continents. They are
also both getting their albums ready for our Fall release schedule
while entertaining many journalists.
Anthony Burr and Skúli Sverrisson are working on Skúli's album in NYC
right now, and it really sounds amazing.
Jóhann is getting his IBM album ready for release on 4AD this October,
and has scheduled some shows for November.
This is starting to sound like one of those mass family emails you get
from someone who you might be related to but they live in a different
city. Before I start giving you my daughter's t-ball league results
and my father's marathon completion time i will let you go.
Take care,
Worker's Institute
07.06.06 - This is turning out to be quite a summer here at Worker's Institute
HQ. The Sigur Ros ep is coming along nicely, and will be available in
iTunes in the US and Canada next Tuesday, July 11th.We hear the tour
is going really well for both Sigur Ros and Amiina.
We also would like to announce two more upcoming releases. This
September we will release the debut album from Austin, Texas based
Peter and the Wolf. We bought one of their self-released hand-drawn
cdr's and just fell in love. We had heard about a show that a guy
named Red Hunter was doing where the audience had to be met on the
bank of a river in Austin and were then brought by canoe to an empty
island where the performance began at midnight. How could we not have
looked into that? It turns out Red is the force behind the ever
changing cast of Peter and the Wolf.
They will be touring the US and parts of Canada this summer playing
both traditional and non-traditional venues. Part of the tour will be
with Jana Hunter and the Castinets on a sailboat. You can learn more
here: http://www.myspace.com/whiskeyandapples
In October we will be releasing the debut album from My Latest Novel.
We are bringing in this record from our friends at Bella Union in the
UK, so we will be the US label for this wonderful Glasgowian band. Is
that right? Should i have said Glasgow, based, or Glasgewan. I am not
sure, I'll ask the band ang get back to you. In any case, this is
another record that we bought and played until we got the nerve up to
call the label and ask to license the album. The NME has favorably
compared My Latest Novel to Arcade Fire, and Mojo reviewed them as a
cross between Belle and Sebastian and The Velvet Underground. We
agree. "Wolves" is a beautiful and moving record that we are very
proud to have for The Worker's Institute. You can learn more here: http://www.mylatestnovel.com/
06.23.06 - We are happy to report that The Worker's Institute (with our friends at Filter Recordings) will be releasing a new
Sigur Ros ep and dvd in North America this August 8th. It is titled "Saeglopur", and features the song Saeglopur from the album Takk...
and 3 newly recorded b-sides. The new songs are intimate and
beautiful, and pick up where Baba Tiki Dido left off, or continue what
they were working on with the b-sides for the untitled album. This
release will have a second disc which has the wonderful videos for
Saeglopur, Hoppipolla and Glosoli. The new music and videos will also
be available on iTunes on July 11th. So save money by buying less
expensive fireworks this July 4th so you can own this very special cd/dvd.
Also, Sigur Ros are on tour right now in Europe, and Amiina are
playing on many of the shows. Please check out our tour page to find
out if both bands will be playing near you this summer.
05.16.06 - Those of you in the NYC area should swing over to the tour page to
find out about an upcoming Anthony Burr event at Tonic. I hear it was
great in Scotland a couple of months ago. Those of you who do not live
near NYC might want to consider moving there, it is wonderful in
August. Those of you who work for federal agencies whose jobs depend
upon a Republican administration might want to head to Kinko's to get
your resume's in order.
04.20.06 - Amiina is the new name for the band that released AnimaminA. Dig it.
They will be coming back to the US for another tour with Sigur Ros.
They ripped it up down under and in Japan, Hong Kong and NZ. They even
popped into London for a show last night. We hope they get some rest
before the next tour starts. Please head over to the tour page to see
if they will be playing near you. Sigur Ros will be playing at
Coachella, and Amiina will be playing with them, but not playing their
own set.
Al Gore 08 anyone? His movie opens at the end of May and we think it
is going to blow some people's minds. Hopefully he can be the guy to
put W in jail in The Hague or in Alabama. They should throw Cheney in
LA County Jail, and lose his paperwork.
02.16.06 - Hello readers! Amina is back in the US, and their headlining show at
Joe's pub in NYC was amazing. The room was full of great people
(including our own Anthony Burr & Skuli Sverrisson) and the band
played a wonderful set. Take a peek at the tour page to see if they
are coming to a city near you soon. Many of the US shows are sold out,
but it is good to check. London readers should buy their tickets
soon, as the Hammersmith show on the 29th has sold out, leaving some
available for the 28th of March.
I don't think we have ever done this, but we suggest you head over to
Dusted magazine to read their review of the Anthony Burr & Skuli
Sverrisson cd. It is a really well written and insightful writeup.
Thanks Dusted.

In Johann Johannsson news, those of you in the Los Angeles area can
hear some of his music in the film Ashes and Snow, playing at the
Santa Monica pier. we are hoping to see it for ourselves this weekend.

12.12.05 - Many more Amina tour dates announced. Please visit the Tour page to find when they will be in the US, UK, Japan, Australia and NZ. 2006 looks to be even busier for the band than 2005, so hang on. The band is currently recording new material in Iceland, so be sure to keep them in your holiday thoughts. Johann Johannsson also recenly finished a whole host of dates in Europe and will also have new releases out in 2006. Anthony & Skuli are also hard at work on new, and quite amazing, music. What have you been doing? Make some music!

09.20.05 - We have added music from Amina and Johann in the releases page, enjoy!
Also, two Icelandic films have been nominated for the Nordic Council Film Prize for 2005. The cool part for us is that one is Dis, the film that Johann Johannsson scored, and the other is Screaming Masterpiece, a documentary about the Icelandic music scene which features both Johann and Amina.
On October 4th we will release the album 'A Thousand Incidents Arise' from Anthony Burr and Skuli Sverrisson. Skuli has played with everyone from Laurie Anderson to Johann Johannsson, and you may know Anthony as the bass clarinetist on some Jim O'Rourke records, Therenedy Ensemble shows and the producer of a Morton feldman record. They had a record on Fire Inc/Staalplaat a few years ago, but this album is more organic and acoustic, while still minimal and beautiful. They will be playing Tonic in NYC on the day of release at 8pm, so all of you reading this in the tri-state area should mark your calendars.
09.09.05 - big big news today. we will be releasing Dís, Jóhann Jóhannsson's
third solo album on September 13th. You can preorder it from our new
Releases page. we accept pay pal. If you are not a pay pal person, it
will be available from Insound, Other Music and Aquarius and many
other US stores on release. This is a US only release for Workers, as
we have licensed it from our friends at 12 Tónar records in Iceland.
Also, check the tour page, Amina will be back in US with Sigur Ros
next week. The LA show was so great, so get ready for an incredible
night of music.
08.02.05 - The Amina dates throughout Europe were fantastic. we hope that anyone
who was unable to get tickets for the shows will be able to see both
bands soon. It seems that many of the US tour dates are selling out
quickly so we urge you to get tickets as soon as possible. The
Australian dates are all sold out as well. The band have been playing
some new songs not featured on the album as well as some new
instruments.
There is a cool new Amina site at: aminamusic.com. We had
nothing to do with it, but we like it. I don't think the forum section
is working, but if we know Greg, he will have that working soon. Why
did i say that? I don't know who this "Greg" is. His site looks nice
though.
We will soon be announcing the release of the album Dís from Jóhann
Jóhannsson, so be sure to check back oon. For now you can check out johannjohannsson.com.
07.03.05 - Amina will be doing a special in-store performance at the wonderful
Monorail Records Shop in Glasgow this coming Thursday, July 7th at
9pm. That is Glasgow time, which we think is also Greenwich Mean
Time. If you live in or near Glasgow we urge you to head down there.
There is a bit of information at the store's website http://www.monorailmusic.com, although if you do live in or near
Glasgow you probably know more about Monorail than we do.
06.23.05 - Wow, check it out. Amina and Sigur Ros have announced
their US tour. It looks like it will be amazing. We
are not sure when tickets will be going on sale, but
we think you should all start making your autumn plans
now. Maybe that 5th class for the fall semester will
have to wait until winter semester, and perhaps don't
accept that promotion at work; fall 2005 will be busy.
we suggest checking in with www.sigur-ros.co.uk for
tour info.
05.29.05 - Amina's debut in London last Sunday was quite a
success. Their performance was descibed as "glorious" by the Rough Trade record store people. They have
re-stocked the ep by the way, so if you were unable to
buy a cd before the merch table sold out and you live
in London, feel free to stop by one of the fine Rough
Trade shops and pick up a copy. Only 5 quid as they
say over there. There are many wonderful UK shops now
stocking the record, so visit them all.
Also, dates have been announced in Australia, so pop
over to our tour page and see if the Sigur Ros/Aimna
tour is coming to a town near you. Sorry Perth people,
you will have to get on a plane. HINT, there are some
pre-sale tickets available on www.sigur-ros.co.uk.
The ep will be available in Australia soon enough, so
if you live there you will be be able to find it.
04.28.05 - If you would like to pre-order AnimaminA on cd go HERE in the US. IF you type in the coupon code "amina10" you will get %10 your entire order at Insound. If you live outside of the US you can go HERE to visit dotshop in sweden. if you scroll to the bottom of that page you will see the link for the CD. Both stores can ship anywhere in the world and will continue carrying our music forever.
04.26.05 - Welcome to The Worker's Institute website. We are extremely proud to announce our first release, the debut EP AnimaminA from Amina. It will be available on May 9th outside of the US, and May 10th in the US. We hope you enjoy it. We will soon be releasing the album Dis from Johann Johannsson in North America, and a new record from Anthony Burr & Skuli Sveirsson worldwide. Amina will be playing shows all over the world this summer and fall both on their own and with Sigur Ros. Get your tickets early.
